Rhine River Weekend

DSC_0813

This past weekend, we spent a few days in Bacharach, a town on the Rhine River in Germany. The town was full of (really, really) old houses. The oldest was from 1368! I’m ashamed to say that I had to do some research to figure out what was happening then (the plague figured prominently). The weather was a bit grey and wet, but it was still beautiful. We spent the day hiking through vineyards, we saw a ton of castles, and we tasted wine and schnitzel–it was a perfect first trip to Germany for me.

I’ve been slightly obsessed with the idea of cruising down the Rhine since I caught a Rick Steves episode about the area. In pictures, those towns seem completely cut off from the rest of the world, but I imagine there’s an autobahn just over the hill.

    • I’ve seen the Rick Steves episode! The town we stayed in is one he recommended. It feels cut off from the world when you’re there too–yet easy to get to because of the hidden autobahn. Perfect!

hi Jennifer – I don’t know if you remember me, but you gave me some great ideas when we travelled to Brazil to see my niece in 2011. Now, alll your Switzerland adventures look great! Thanks for sharing.
